As many of you have probably already read/heard/seen, there's an amazing group of people from several fandoms who offer to write fic or make icons or wallpapers when you donate to the Red Cross or any other organization (thanks to Urs for pointing out Noah's Wish!)

I don't have time to offer my dubious talent *bg* but at least I went on a shopping spree and got myself some fic by some of my all-time fave authors! I'd never buy a zine, but this is different - here, I'm paying for a good cause. :) And get some great fic written, specifically tailored to my wants and needs. Whee! :)

I just wanted to thank the artists and authors who have offered their time and talent for this worthy cause, and thanks to everyone who made a contribution, no matter how "small". (there is no such thing as "small" where contributions are concerned!)

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, or who haven't had time to peruse the goodies that are being offered, here's a list of all people and what they are willing to make. :)

Can't wait to read "my" fic! Whee! :) But in the meantime, I do feel for the people in the disaster area. I've been watching the news just about non-stop for the last few days, and it just leaves me horrified. Let's hope that things will get back to normal sooner or later, and that there will be help on the way soon to those unfortunate enough to still be trapped in the area.

Dubious talent? *g* Spank! ;)

Thanks so much for your donations, Gaby. I can't wait to write your story! I'm going to really enjoy every minute knowing that together we're saving animals left homeless by the hurricane.

I am just overwhelmed with love and pride for our fandom today. The way everyone is coming together to work for hurricane relief just makes me so happy. I've been glued to the news too for the last couple of days and it just seems like the situation there is getting worse and worse. It means so much to know that we can help in some small way.

I've been following the story on the BBC website mainly and I'm horrified too. I've just been on the BBC website and discovered they're running a "Get in Touch" page which has some very sad stories of people looking for missing relatives. One woman discovered her birth mother in November last year and has spoken to her but not met her yet - and now she's missing. Another has a missing father who is 100% disabled, a veteran, and decribed as "ornery." And there are pages and pages of missing family members and friends - it's heartbreaking.

But there are good people out there - apparantly CraigsList has a lot of adverts from people all over the US offering free accommodation to refugees from Katrina.

the whole gifts for gifts is a wonderful way for people to get involved. I'm really proud of how we have all pulled together from this and hopefully it will make a big difference in the lives of the people and animals devasted by this disaster.
