So, a year late, but finally the results for the Spookys are in. I'm delightfully impressed. Not.

Glad to hear that Alice is finally relinquishing control, though it's definitely waaay too late that she came to her senses. Still a little worried that she'll continue to host the awards. A webmaster always has access to the control panel and can do nasty things (like, oh, dunno...banning authors, perchance?!), even if others have access as well. Let's see where this goes.

Also, apparently all bans are now off, and writers won't be banned again if at all possible. That's great news, kudos to the committee. (and isn't it a shame that this sort of thing has to be made a rule to begin with?)

Then again...just wondering here...

I thought the committee had something to do with banning authors (at least that's what Alice made it sound like, and even though I do know that it was, in fact, just a personal vendetta from her, it would've been nice if the committee had stepped in to stop her...), and there've only been two authors who got banned by her, the other authors pulled their stories voluntarily to show their support at the time.

Not sure about the other banned author, but I for one am not particularly eager to return to the Spookys, the whole fiasco just left a bad taste in my mouth.

On the other hand, I'm thrilled to see that the other banned author managed to win first and second place in the same gender threesome category! Wow! Downright spooky, I must say. Guess it's just proof that Alice can't even ban an author right!

*shakes head in confused amusement*

And yes, some of the other winners made me go hmmm as well...!

But anyway. I've now said my piece, and I feel better. Me? Bitter? Not anymore. Bittersweet maybe, but that's it. LOL!

Good luck for the future, Spookys, for what it's worth.

The whole thing was so unfair. I wouldn't know the status of the website and webmistress w/out your LJ. Just let it go and post everywhere. Your stories deserve the widest possible distribution. It helps the newbies when they are first finding their way around the site. I haven't looked at Spookys yet so unsure of who has one. Don't let other peoples stuff get under your skin if you can. Remember you have your own cheering section. {{{Hugs}}}

Bans were Alice
I am tired of taking the rap for her bullshit. Lara and I couldn't change her mind. Lara will have control of the panel now. Raven did not win. Alice made one last error and did not update from last year. Would Raven have won if her stories were not banned? Who knows? All I know is I put four years of work into the Spooky awards before most writers would dare go to ATXF.

Re: Bans were Alice
I'm honestly sorry that you have to take the rap for Alice, but since she acted as spokesperson of the committee, that is bound to happen. Maybe it would've been clearer for the rest of us if the committee members had made sure to distance themselves from Alice's personal decisions.

We will never know who would've actually won what award. I'm fairly certain that Raven would've kicked ass, yes. And yeah, I'm pretty arrogant to think that our Virtual Sanctuary would've snatched an award or two, maybe. But it wasn't meant to be, and when it all comes down to it, I don't even care about awards. They're nice to show off, but they're not important. It was never about winning any Spookys, it was about the way Raven and I got treated by Alice.

As for Lara having control of the panel now, that's all very nice and dandy, but please keep in mind that Alice is still hosting the site. Which means that she will have access to the cpanel! I'm hosted at Slashcity, I have my cpanel password protected and nobody else knows what this password is. But still Bonnie and Robin, the Slashcity gals, have access to my site. Why? Because they host the Shack, and that means they can get to my cpanel. There is no way to keep Alice out of the cpanel unless the Spooky website is moved to a server that she doesn't own. Just thought I'd point that out. Though I really do sincerely hope Alice is so bored with the XF fandom that she doesn't care about accessing the cpanel anymore. Let's hope for the best! And yes, I do keep my fingers crossed that you'll manage to bring the Spookys "back to life", whether you believe me or not.

Vesta, I've let it go months ago. I'm done with the Spookys, have been since Raven and I got banned and it became clear that this decision would not be changed. But when I saw today's update on the results being finally posted, and then the ridiculous double win for Raven's banned stories, I couldn't help myself and needed to comment. I vented, I blew off some steam, I felt better. *shrugs*

As for posting everywhere, I can't and I won't. In case you don't know, Alice has not just banned me (and Raven) from the Spookys, but also from any and all archives she runs. Them's a lot. I usually didn't really bother with most of them, but used the Basement religiously, of course. I couldn't anymore, even if I wanted to. I'd still post to RatB, but ned and leny have stopped updating. Slashing Mulder or Beacon in the Night hardly ever get updated anymore. Why bother sending fics to the archivists when the stories don't get posted anyway? I have the Shack, it's a little archive of its own with four authors, and I'm happy there.

So, I'll do what I do best: I'll take care of the Shack, play fairy godmother to my fellow Shackers, do my beta thang, channel Nemesis, and maybe even find the time to write a little. And refuse to worry about silly awards. *shrugs*

Just wanted to say that I support you and Raven 100%. What happened was unfair, wrong and frankly, shocking. I voted for you guys in a lot of categories and it was the very next day that I found out they were cast in vain.

I really wish this had never happened. It's a shame when one person's grudge and abuse of power leaves a stain on something that was supposed to be a celebration.
