God, I swear, this would've been a movie I wouldn't have watched despite Matty. I refuse to acknowledge this kind of garbage. And it would've killed me not to see Matt because I'm sure he'd've been great in the role, in and of itself. Yummy sexy guy and all that. *g*

I so know what you mean! *hands* I broke the 20K barrier yesterday and I'm still nowhere near done. Well, actually, I "only" have two more scenes to write to get to the end (the last one's gonna be huge though) BUT I left out a huge chunk in the middle that I still need to add. *headdesk* Sigh.

Right now I'm hoping I'll be done before I hit the 30K mark...

Eh. The thing is, whoever's playing that role can only lose in my book. I know the masses love 50 Shades, but the fact remains that these books portray the BDSM lifestyle in a completely wrong light, and it infuriates me to no end. (I'm not the only one.)

So, out of respect of everyone who does live in the BDSM community, I was very relieved to see that Matt said no. Well, that's not the official statement, but the way he always squirmed when asked about the role, I'm pretty sure he declined. It would've been a nightmare. He'd've been great in the role of yummy sexy guy, but the plot is a slap to the face of everyone who's doing this whole BDSM thing correctly, and whoever's now attached to the movie will be side-eyed by those who know better.

I know some cool people who came to be fans of Matt Bomer through reading Fifty Shades, so I'm sort of neutral about the whole thing even though I personally dislike the books. But on the whole, I cannot believe how entitled and just plain batshit crazy some of the fans are being. Get some perspective, people. Damn.

I find it kind of strange to become a fan of someone who is in no way associated with the thing (be it a book, a movie/TV show or a song) that you (general you) are initially fan of, but to each their own.

IMHO, 50 Shades is just as much (if not more) a pile of shit as the Twilight crap. The books were shit, the movies are shit. Considering that 50 Shades is a barely disguised Twilight fanfic, that's no surprise.

Be that as it may, I personally have a huge problem with the so-called plot of the book. BDSM FTW, but do it right, FFS, and 50 Shades is the perfect example of how not to do it. If people don't know better, fine. If people clamor for their favorite eyecandy to play the role, fine. (I'd love to see Matt in a sexy role, too!) But associating Matt with this garbage, wanting him to promote the worst kind of non-con crap that's disguised as ~erotica~ then I have a huge problem with this.

As you can see, I have very strong opinions about this particular subject. *g* I honestly believe taking this role would be career suicide, and I also believe that Matt would have declined (or has declined) the role.

Now, gimme the guy in a steamy movie with lots of nekkid scenes, even and especially if there are kinky scenes, and I'm all over it...as long as it's consensual stuff. Ya know?

Well, these were people who read the book, liked it, looked up the faves, and then became fans of Matt and the work he does now. Basically the same way fans who found him through White Collar started following him and his other work. I think the difference with them and some of the crazier fans is that they became fans of Matt, rather than fans of having Matt specifically play a role he probably hates.

LOL, I totally agree with you about the book, especially about the treatment of BDSM. But, having read the first book (it was awful, seriously) and talked to some of the more reasonable people who have read it, I think different people are getting different things from it, and BDSM isn't really in the mix of those things (at least, I hope not, because that is one of the worst aspects of the book). To me, the whole phenomenon is mostly a sad commentary on society and how it treats women's sexuality, and how we socialize girls and women to deal with their sexuality.

But yeah, I'm relieved that Matt will have nothing to do with this (not that I thought he would anyway) and yet is still reaping loads of free publicity from it. *g*
