"Veteran drama White Collar has been renewed for a six-episode sixth season, though the NBCUniversal-owned network declined to confirm whether it will be the final season."

(found everywhere, e.g. here: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/usa-renews-white-collar-orders-690318)

Sooo...yay, S6 is a definite go! \o/

Sooo...definitely only six eps. /o\

But...maybe not the last season? \o?

(No, I don't doubt that it's the last season. Matty said as much. But why can't frakkin' USA just, ya know, say so?!)

Well, with their "brilliant" new direction, when their reality shows and whatnot start falling one by one, maybe they want an option to crawl back and beg for the established shows to return :P

LOL! That is brilliant and now my new headcanon!!!

(And Matt's gonna go, "Um, yeah, lemme see if I can squeeze you in between the Monty biopic, picking up my Emmy for TNH, working on the new Soderbergh movie and rehearsing for the Magic Mike musical on Broadway. How's winter of 2018 sound for a shortened season 7?" *snorfle*)

So did Matt in the interview. So did the news articles before.

All of this is completely ridiculous.

And the WC Twitter doesn't even acknowledge the whole thing, only retweets some bullshit tweet from TedonTV where WC's renewal is tagged on. *eyeroll*

Way to win friends and influence people USA. Why in the world would you have a Season 6 with 6 episodes and then follow it with another season???? Just order the full season already, take Fox up on their offer, and let the show go out in style.

I can only hope that they are going to tell the creators if this will be the last six episodes because else we are in for another fight for season seven and to be honest, I'm getting tired to fight on Twitter.

And I don't want another heart breaking cliffhanger because they are not sure about renewal or not. If USA wanted to keep the show they should tell what they have in mind with it before filming starts and not doing this farce again and again.

Makes me really mad :(.

Of course it would be great to get a season seven but why doing this only six eps for season six and not telling those will be the last? What sick game are they playing?

I'm pretty sure everyone involved is going into this knowing (or thinking) that this is the last season.

And they already basically stated they knew how to resolve the kidnapping thing, so I'm sure that's what they'll focus on in those six eps. Tie up loose ends like the Burke marriage and Neal being released, and that's it.

I'm curious as to who's running the show at USA - they're utterly clueless about PR and marketing, not to mention programming. It's also rude to the cast and crew to play these kinds of games, they need to be able to plan their lives and be free to seek other roles.

Well, the cast is optioned until the end of April, which means TPTB have time until then to make anything official and tell the actors if and/or when they'd be shooting. That way, they can start booking other gigs around the WC shooting schedule.

As for the crew, they've already moved on, most notably the writing staff, which makes me cringe to think about. I don't know who will come back. The rest of the crew (from hair and make-up to stunt people) might be re-hired if they're available, but right now they're all shooting. It's pilot season. :(

I read in the other article that the crew would be available again in it was either April or May after pilot season is done shooting. Maybe that is why Matt said they would probably be filming in the summer.

That's why I said they might be re-hired if they're available. ;)

Usually, it takes about 6 weeks to 2 months of prepping before they start shooting but with the crew having to be completely hired etc, maybe a bit longer? We also don't know what other jobs the cast has lined up by now.

And here I was, always hoping for a schmoopy Christmas episode... :( Ah well, that's what fanfic is for. *g*

Gotcha. I was thinking of it as the crew would be coming back after pilot season. But your right it would if they are available. If they have to completely hire a crew and with the prepping, which I didn't think of, it would be summer by the time they can start shooting.

And here I was, always hoping for a schmoopy Christmas episode... :(

I have always wanted a Christmas episode. Or that stuck in an elevator one Tim DeKay talked about. But yeah, that is what fanfic is for. :)

USA always tells the creators and crew and actors and all that that it will be the last season so they can write to a finale. They just don't announce publicly that it is the final season until the season begins airing or right before. They have done that with several other shows. So USA probably won't announce it is the final season until they start airing promos for it.

There is a rumor that Graceland was shortened to 6 eps as well instead of the 13 its already given for season 2.

Could it be that Jeff Eastin wants to send his baby off properly and write the scripts himself again?

I kinda doubt that personally.

Also? God, I hope not!

I mean, WC is his brainchild, and some of his scripts were brilliant (the Pilot was perfect), but he also wrote some stinkers. Since he doesn't seem invested in WC anymore, I'm really reluctant to trust him with the show... :(

(If Graceland did get shortened, it's a lot more likely because the ratings are pretty bad compared to other shows and USA wants to get rid of it. Just my take on it.)

I think that rumor turned out to be someone misreading one of the WC articles which also mentioned that Jeff is also exec producer of GL.

Dunno how I feel, tbh. Clearly this is the last season and I hate, hate, hate to say goodbye to the show, but you know, fandom goes on.

It's kinda bittersweet, isn't it? I mean, I want more Peter & Neal & OT3 goodness 4EVAH but at the same time, I realize that there are only so many things they can continue to do with the premise of CI-on-work-release. I personally loved S5 because it brought back the S1 feeling. I do understand why folks were unhappy about it though (for the same reason).

So, I'm glad we get more eps to tie up loose ends, find and rescue Neal and then have all the Peter comfort and life affirming smex. I do wish we'd get 10 or 12 eps instead of only 6 though. :(

And even if the show is over, our fandom is made of awesomesauce for the most part, and we just get to continue being awesome without new canon! :D
