I am devastated by the news of Robin Williams apparently having committed suicide.
I have admired him as a comedian and as a serious actor for decades. In fact, he was the integral part of one of my favorite movies, Dead Poets' Society - this is one of the movies that defined my generation, and that was in large part because of him. This movie may have actually changed my life (or at least the way I viewed a lot of things back as a teenager).
He was brilliant in Good Will Hunting, he made me howl with laughter in Mrs. Doubtfire or doing the voiceover of Genie in Aladdin, and Good Morning, Vietnam left a huge impression on me. There are too many movies to list (and OMG, I did
not know that Willie Garson worked with him in House of D until Willie tweeted about it!) - and that's not even mentioning Mork from Mork and Mindy.
As has been reported, Robin Williams has been suffering from depression, and this might be the reason for his actions.
As someone who has been there, I urge everyone who feels depressed to please seek help. There are myriads of ways to get help and support. You are not alone, and you should not suffer alone.
